Personal:

My name is Jessica Albrecht and my background is in human nutrition. I did my PhD in the Department of Neuroradiology at the University of Munich, Germany. The focus of my PhD thesis was the identification of neural correlates underlying the perception of bimodal odorants, which stimulate both the olfactory and trigeminal systems. I used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate the effects of intranasally applied nicotine stimuli on the olfactory and the trigeminal cortical systems. In addition I studied the reliability of an olfactory detection threshold test and worked on a study comparing the olfactory sensitivity of healthy and anorexic subjects during hunger and satiety. Since October 2008 I have been working in the Cognitive Neuroimaging Lab at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia under the supervision of Dr. Johan Lundstrom. I am interested in how the olfactory, visual, and auditory systems interact to form a unique percept of our everyday surroundings. During my studies I will be using behavioral approaches as well as functional imaging methods (EEG, fMRI) to look at brain activation during the perception of these multimodal stimuli.
